Week 2: September 10, 2023

Greetings and happy Sunday,

I hope you all had a good weekend. 

Last week, I attended the Board of Directors meeting of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors in Philadelphia from Wednesday through Friday.  On Friday, I took the train to visit my mom in northern New Jersey.  I was scheduled to fly back to Michigan this morning; however, due to the storms on the East Coast, my flight was canceled. The first flight I could get back is on Monday afternoon. 


I apologize for canceling lecture class and office hours on Monday, but I hope that when you are my age, you're able to visit your mothers (mine is 87 years old).   I'll give Monday's lecture on Tuesday and Thursday during the first 50 minutes of the lab sessions. You will still have the time to work on the homework during your respective lab sessions. 

I will open the online participation question today and it is due Friday, Sept 15, 11:59 PM.

Assignment 1 is due Sept 22, 11:59 PM.   If you need the grace period for either assigment, just let me know.

The first Environmental Engineering Student Society meeting is Monday at 6 PM in 2400 EB: Student Panel and Game Night.  Come join us to meet the panel, we will be giving career fair advice. We’ll also play some games; winners will be rewarded with a tshirt! This is a great opportunity to meet peers with a shared interest in the environment! 



Again, I apologize for canceling Monday's class and office hours and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday or Thursday.

Week 1: Happy Labor Day!

I hope you are enjoying the long weekend and the last few days of summer!  It's definitely been a beautiful weekend.     This week in ENE 480, we will prepare health and safety plans during lab.  You will complete these in your assigned teams, which have been posted to LON-CAPA.  Only one team member needs to upload your HASP to the dropbox on LON-CAPA. The HASP is due on at the end of each lab period.   We will meet in the Trans Lab to work on the health and safety plans. I anticipate that you should be able to complete the HASP within the first two hours. The link to the template is on LON-CAPA.  Please make sure to download the template before you begin your work. The grading rubric along with a pre-recorded lecture is posted on LON-CAPA in the Health and Safety Plans folder. ENE 480: Week 14 Dec 3, 2023

Happy Sunday, Several of you have asked for an extended grace period to have time to study for the ENE 421 exam.  As I understand that this exam is a significant portion of your grade, I will allow you until Tuesday at 11:59 PM to turn in Lab4 report/presentation. Any extensions beyond this Tuesday will result in a 10%/day penalty. In the lecture this week, you will work with your teammate(s) to analyze the kinetic data you obtained last week for the final lab project. This will help you decide what to do in lab this week. I will not present any new material. The last participation (reflection) question is on LON-CAPA and is due on Monday 12/11 at 11:59 PM, at the same time as the final project report (which can be submitted as a team) All the best, Dr. Masten
